I hold a B.A. in Occupational Therapy and an M.A. in Learning Disabilities, and I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. focused on math anxiety as a multidimensional construct, combining developmental and cognitive perspectives. I serve as a lecturer teaching a variety of courses on Learning Disabilities and Development, work as a Student Mentor, and serve as Implementation Manager in a teacher training project.
My Ph.D. research focuses on Math anxiety as a multidimensional construct: combining developmental and cognitive perspectives, and the main finding is that math anxiety is linked with elevated physiological arousal during the processing of complex numerical stimuli (double-digit equations) but not simple numerical stimuli (single-digit equations) or words. Math anxiety also mediated trait anxiety and physiological arousal during the processing of complex numerical stimuli. While gender differences in math anxiety levels were not consistent over the samples, math anxiety was repeatedly associated with interests in and choices of careers with a lower math load for females but not for males. This relationship was direct for younger females in middle and high school and was mediated by math achievement for university female students. Numerical performance and math achievements consistently predicted career interests and choices for male students. Finally, trait anxiety was associated with career interests and choices for high school but not university students.
